Base Wars Quest Weapons & Holofoil Unlocks

Permanent grinds, seasonal Christmas and New Year guns, Holofoil cosmetics, and how requirements changed after v22.2.14.

Last updated:

Why quest weapons matter

Quest weapons sit outside the normal Battle Score shop. You accept an objective in the Quests / Quest Rewards UI, grind specific kills or damage, and unlock a unique primary, secondary, or launcher that never appears as a plain score purchase. Some rewards are permanent chase guns (Voltonic, Pigeon, Whirlwind, Strike). Others return only during holiday windows (JL-Frozer, The White Death, Blizzard HMG, HNY Mortar, HNY Fireworks, ARC SPDR-25b). Holofoil variants add collector flair—sometimes pure cosmetics, sometimes tied to a separate hard quest.

This page is the planning sheet: what each family asks for, how v22.2.14 nerfed permanent requirements, and how to farm without throwing every Skirmish. Cross-check combat value on the Weapons Tier List, fund supporting kits with Battle Score, and skim Updates plus the recent patches digest before a week-long grind so you are not chasing outdated kill counts.

How quests work in practice

  1. Open Quest Rewards / Available Quests from the menu after you deploy.
  2. Read View Info carefully—requirements list weapon classes, vehicle damage, facility progress, or seasonal props (snowmen).
  3. Accept only what you will finish. Abandoned mid-quests waste mental bandwidth.
  4. Play real Skirmishes. Captures, vehicle seats, and assists usually advance multiple bars at once.
  5. Claim the reward, then re-evaluate the gun in customize for a week before rewriting your main kit.

During anniversary Questravaganza windows (for example the 16YO celebration in v22.2.13), many quest weapons return with double progress. Save the ugliest permanent grinds for those weeks when possible.

Permanent quest family (requirements nerfed in v22.2.14)

Developers cut permanent quest numbers because the old totals felt hostile to new accounts and boring for hardcore grinders. Post-nerf targets (verify live UI if a later patch retunes them):

Voltonic

  • Sniper kills: 850 → 400
  • Vehicular damage: 5,000,000 → 2,500,000

Farm tip: Main a sniper you already aim with during mid-round holds, then hop tanks or destroyers when your team pushes armor. Do not AFK in a jet hoping splash ticks alone finish the bar—combine both metrics in normal play.

Pigeon

  • Shotgun and sniper kills: 1000 → 500
  • ATV auto-shotgun kills: 250 → 100

Farm tip: Run shotgun interiors on facilities, then spend a few lives on ATV with the auto-shotgun module when lanes open. The ATV slice is the bottleneck for many players—treat it as a dedicated mini-session.

Whirlwind and Strike

  • Auto/burst pistol kills: 750 → 400
  • Semi-auto pistol kills: 750 → 400
  • Infantry damage: 20,000,000 → 10,000,000

Farm tip: Pistol-only lives feel slow until you stop chasing fair mid-range AR fights. Soften with teammates, finish with pistols, and let the infantry damage bar ride on chips, assists, and Rebel PvE when available (see Rebels).

Permanent quests remain long-term hobbies. They are not day-one must-haves for winning Skirmishes—see How to Win.

Holofoil Voltonic quest

v22.2.17 added a dedicated quest for Holofoil Voltonic. Treat Holofoil lines as prestige skins and completionist goals first. Some Holofoil guns are combat-identical cosmetics; others sit behind extreme difficulty quests. Do not skip a usable Battle Score AR just to chase foil if your aim still needs work.

If you already finished standard Voltonic, Holofoil is the collector encore. Keep chat tips enabled (re-added in the same patch era) so seasonal UI hints do not hide on returning accounts.

FX-Frostbite (+ Holofoil cosmetic)

v22.2.15 introduced FX-Frostbite, a cryogenic belt-fed autoshotgun with an alternate mode that fires delayed icicle slugs. A rare Holofoil FX-Frostbite exists through a much harder quest and is described as a pure cosmetic change—same gunfeel, shinier flex.

Later balance (v22.2.16–v22.2.17) tightened Frostbite:

  • Buckshot pellet damage and effective range were reduced; accuracy later buffed as compensation on some patches.
  • Slug damage fell hard; splash values and spread were retuned.
  • Slugs stopped ignoring splash resistances.

Play Frostbite as a close-to-mid pressure tool, not a pocket sniper. Pair with armor that can survive return fire while you unload the belt. Re-check live customize stats after every winter balance pass.

Seasonal Christmas set: JL-Frozer, White Death, Blizzard HMG

When Christmas quests return (re-enabled in v22.2.15):

  • JL-Frozer — cryogenic utility; slow percentage and duration were nerfed across winter patches, and hit radius was tightened so aim matters again.
  • The White Death — received a large velocity buff (1500 → 2400 in the Christmas balance wave), rewarding lead-and-track shots.
  • Blizzard HMG — dual-mode HE vs spin-up heavy gun with slow on hit in newer builds; HE RPM and spin-up damage saw buffs, with spread added later so spray discipline matters.

Classic Blizzard farm habits still help: destroy snowmen (golden snowmen pay more progress), capture facilities, bank LMG/chaingun kills, and get vehicle/turret 20mm kills. Swap Jeep / Speedboat / ATV modules toward 20mm when that bar stalls.

Missed the window? Wait for the next holiday return—do not buy fake “instant unlock” scripts from Scripts.

New Year: HNY Mortar and HNY Fireworks

v22.2.16 (2025-12-31) added quests for HNY Mortar and HNY Fireworks. These are seasonal launcher-style chase pieces. Grind them while the New Year UI is live; treat them as celebration tools and situational explosives rather than mandatory ranked crutches. Vehicle sound packs shipped in the same update—useful audio feedback while you farm from armor seats.

Halloween chase: ARC SPDR-25b

v22.2.14 added ARC SPDR-25b, a burst shotgun with an underbarrel that launches crawling spider mines. Later tweaks raised mine damage, reserves, and heavy-vehicle splash while fixing self-damage and wall-spawn bugs. ARC VMPR-23 quest availability returned in the same Halloween window.

Spider mines punish campers and soft vehicles if you seed chokepoints instead of dumping them at your own feet. Listen for audio cues—phantom mine sounds have been bugfixed before, so trust eyes when the cue feels wrong.

MTs-255 chase

v22.2.22 added MTs-255 as a new weapon drop in the same content wave as the big Rebel variant pass. Expect a quirky kit gun that needs a week of public matches before you rank it mentally. Unlock cost and quest framing can shift—confirm in customize and compare honestly on the weapons tier list.

Session plans that finish bars

Two-hour permanent slice

  1. Warm up on Controls.
  2. One Skirmish focusing sniper or pistol kills for the active permanent quest.
  3. One Skirmish focusing vehicle damage or ATV shotgun.
  4. Spend Battle Score only on tools that accelerate the quest (better sniper optic comfort, workable shotgun, etc.).

Holiday weekend

  1. Accept only the seasonal guns you care about—do not stack five incomplete quests.
  2. Prioritize snowmen / event props early before the map clears.
  3. Mix facility captures so you are still helping the team win (and still earning score).

Anniversary VIP overlap

If you own or are evaluating 16YO VIP charge-up guns, do not confuse them with quest rewards—compare packages on Anniversary VIP. Quest grind and Robux VIP are parallel tracks.

What not to do

  • Ignoring facilities while tunnel-visioning kill counters—you lose rounds and still farm slower.
  • Starting Holofoil ultra-quests before you enjoy the base gun.
  • Trusting month-old screenshot requirements after a documented nerf patch.
  • Using executors to spoof quest progress—account risk for a foil skin is a bad trade.

Linking quests to the rest of your kit

Quest guns shine when the rest of the loadout covers their weaknesses. A cryo shotgun still wants a rocket for tanks. A pistol quest still wants armor that survives the walk to mid. Use the loadout planner after each unlock, and keep Rebel awareness handy when PvE variants share your farm servers.

Quest weapons are Base Wars homework with cool toys at the end. Pick one bar, play the objective, and let the reward arrive as a side effect of good Skirmishes—not the other way around.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for Base Wars codes, VIP, loadouts, and combat.

Did permanent quest requirements get easier?

Yes. In v22.2.14 Voltonic, Pigeon, Whirlwind, and Strike kill and damage totals were roughly halved so long grinds feel less punishing.

Is Holofoil FX-Frostbite stronger than normal Frostbite?

No. The Holofoil Frostbite quest reward is described as a cosmetic change. Judge the gun on FX-Frostbite's live stats, not the foil skin.

When do Christmas quest weapons return?

JL-Frozer, The White Death, and Blizzard HMG rotate back during Christmas quest windows. Check Quest Rewards when winter events are live.

What is ARC SPDR-25b?

A Halloween quest burst shotgun with an underbarrel that fires crawling spider mines. Use mines for area denial, not blind self-fire in doorways.

Should new players finish Voltonic before learning the game?

No. Learn captures, flags, and a basic Battle Score kit first. Permanent quests are long-term goals, not day-one requirements.

Where do I verify the latest quest numbers?

Always trust the in-game View Info panel and the recent patches page. Wiki summaries can lag a hot-fix behind.
