Getting Started in Base Wars
Survive your first hour, unlock smarter, and understand Skirmish before chasing endgame gear.
What Base Wars is
Base Wars (place 18164449, universe 29676957 by d4rk886’s Studio) is a long-running Roblox military FPS. It won RGC 2012 User’s Choice Game of the Year and still plays like a facility-capture shooter with CTF at HQ. You pick a team, spawn with a loadout, fight over points, and spend Battle Score on better weapons, armor, utilities, and vehicle options.
This guide is the onboarding path: join cleanly, learn the round loop, earn early score, and know when to open specialist pages like Controls, Battle Score, and How to Win.
First launch checklist
- Open the official experience from Roblox and wait for assets to finish loading—classic Base Wars maps are dense with vehicles and pads.
- Choose a team when prompted. Public matches are usually green vs yellow. On Peak, a third blue team joins and mid-map fights get messier.
- Pick a starter loadout. New accounts typically see simple infantry options (rifle, shotgun, or M16-style kits). You do not need a paid VIP to contribute.
- Deploy, find cover immediately, and confirm your Controls—WASD move, LMB fire, RMB / C / Z aim variants, B for scope, R for rockets when equipped, F for vehicle weapons.
- Locate your base amenities: ammo pads, health pads, vehicle spawners, and the path toward the nearest capture facility.
Do not sprint-chase the first enemy you see. There is no classic sprint key in Base Wars; positioning and angles matter more than panic peeks.
Understanding a Skirmish round
A Skirmish is the core timed team fight. Facilities on the map flip ownership when your team holds them. Captures feed Battle Score and map control. HQ flag play (CTF) creates sudden swings—stealing and returning the flag can decide a close timer.
When the clock ends, the team with the better overall performance (kills, captures, and related contribution depending on mode rules) wins. If you are here for The Hunt: Roblox 20, remember a win finishes the quest, while a loss is worth 50%—two losses also clear it. Details live on Hunt Badge.
Loadout slots explained
Base Wars loadouts are deeper than a single gun:
- Primary — rifles, SMGs, shotguns, or snipers for most of your DPS.
- Secondary — pistols or backups for close scrapes and dry primaries.
- Tertiary — situational tools depending on unlocks.
- Rocket — anti-vehicle and area denial; learn R and lock rules before wasting tubes.
- Utilities — support items that change how you hold a pad or push a lane.
- Melee — last resort and occasional armor counters.
- Armor — survivability and sometimes special tradeoffs (including challenge armors that boost score gain).
Early on, pick whatever you can aim with. After a few thousand Battle Score, start comparing options on the Weapons Tier List instead of unlocking randomly.
Your first-hour goals
Minute 0–10: Learn spawn exits and the closest capture point. Die less by using cover and not standing on open runways.
Minute 10–25: Help flip one facility and take at least a few assists. Assists and captures are safer score than ego peeks into three defenders.
Minute 25–45: Try one vehicle. Tanks are forgiving for breakthroughs; jets (Vortex, Shadow, Tracker, and friends) punish players who ignore the sky. If the map offers a Battle Tank, practice boarding it once so Hunt event pushes feel familiar.
Minute 45–60: Open the unlock menu, spend Battle Score on one clear upgrade (better primary or basic armor), and note daily playtime progress toward free VIP paths.
Free VIP paths (Ammo VIP and Uber VIP)
Base Wars rewards consistent playtime:
- Play about 15 minutes per day for 2 days to earn Ammo VIP-style benefits (larger reserves so you reload at pads less often).
- Maintain play across roughly 30 days toward Uber VIP access to Uber-tier gear such as Uber Armor, Uber Chaingun, and Uber Rocket.
Paid gamepasses (Common / Special / Uber and related shirts) still exist for discounts and instant unlocks, but free paths are enough to learn the game. Never confuse VIP with Codes—this experience rarely uses redeemable promo strings.
Map awareness without memorizing everything
You do not need every corridor on day one. Memorize:
- Your HQ and flag desk
- Two nearest facilities
- Ammo / health pads on your side
- At least one vehicle spawner
When you rotate to The Land, Peak, or other layouts, open Maps between deaths. Facility control beats random mid wandering.
Combat basics that save lives
- Aim modes: Hip fire for close chaos; ADS / scope (B) for mid-range. Practice RMB, C, and Z so you are not fumbling during a push.
- Head and helmet hitboxes: Helmets matter. Aim high when you have time.
- Ammo discipline: Empty magazines mid-push get you killed. Visit pads after big fights.
- Vehicle etiquette: Do not steal the only tank while five teammates are already rolling. Board with a plan—push a facility or deny an enemy jet—then bail if the hull is critical.
For deeper key lists, use Controls. For objective play, use How to Win.
Battle Score without the full deep dive
You earn Battle Score from kills, assists, facility captures, vehicle destructions, repairs, and related contributions. Captures are huge for beginners because they reward presence, not only aim. Spend early score on tools you will actually equip this session. Full farming routes and rank systems (weapon ranks D → SSS by kills with that weapon) are covered in Battle Score.
What to ignore in hour one
- Chasing every Holofoil / quest exotic before you can hit shots
- Buying Robux VIP solely because chat said so
- AFK farming in a corner (you learn nothing and may hurt the team)
- Random Scripts that risk your account during events
Focus on clean rounds. Skill transfers to every unlock.
After you finish this page
- Drill Controls for five minutes in a live match.
- Skim Battle Score so your next unlock is intentional.
- If the anniversary event is live, clear Hunt Badge.
- Compare guns and armor on the Tier List once you have options.
- Check Updates when something feels patched, and Players / Wiki for broader context.
Base Wars rewards patience. One disciplined hour beats ten hours of spawn-peeking with a random loadout.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for Base Wars codes, VIP, loadouts, and combat.
Is Base Wars free to play?
Yes. You can fight, capture, and unlock a huge amount of gear with Battle Score alone. VIP gamepasses and shirts are optional shortcuts or extras.
How many teams are in a Base Wars match?
Most maps use two teams (green and yellow). Peak adds a third blue team, which changes rotations and mid control.
What should I unlock first with Battle Score?
Prioritize a primary you can aim with and basic survivability. Avoid exotic unlocks until you understand facilities and flag play—see the Battle Score guide for farming details.
How do I get free Ammo VIP or Uber VIP?
Play about 15 minutes a day for two days toward Ammo VIP benefits, and keep up daily play toward the longer Uber VIP playtime path (around 30 days).
I only care about The Hunt badge—what do I do?
Open the Hunt Badge guide: win one Skirmish or lose twice (each loss is 50%). Spawning a Battle Tank early is a common fast-win approach.
Where can I see weapon and vehicle rankings?
Use the Weapons Tier List and Vehicles Tier List after you understand the basics, and cross-check patch notes on Updates.
